Green Thumb

Before we moved, I had a vegetable garden.  I last planted while pregnant (and got stuck in the garden, because I sat down & was too big to get up), but when Skeeter was born early, that garden was pretty much left to fend for itself.  I didn't plant again the following year, because we were getting ready to buy a new house and it seemed pointless.

But now that we're settled in at the new place, I was very excited to start planting once the weather evened out some.  We currently have built in planters on each side of our back porch, so I'm using those for the vegetables and herbs this year.  I've only planted on one side so far.  As soon as more types of vegetables are available down here, I'll plant on the other side.

We eventually plan to tear out the planters and build a screened in porch, at which point my garden will be relocated.  But for now, I'm loving looking out the breakfast window at my growing plants.

Skeeter was very excited to help!

I've actually let her dig around in the planters for the past few weeks.  So she was ready to go!

Kinda funny, one of the first things I plated was the Citronella, AKA Mosquito Repellant.  Sorry Skeeter!

Salt marsh mosquitoes get terrible around here during the spring and summer, so I will do anything I can to keep them away!

I've never planted broccoli before, so I'm really excited to see how it goes!

The previous owners left the parsley behind in a pot, so I transferred it to the planter with the rest of the herbs.

These tomatoes will stay in the pots.

The planters are very easy to cover in case we get another freeze down here (I'll be surprised if we do!).  And the tomatoes will be very easy to pull inside if necessary.

Have you already started planting?  What are your favorite garden items?

I've never had space to plant my own garden. Sigh. It's actually a bucket list item of mine to have a vegetable garden. I cannot wait to be able to harvest my own veggies!
