Storytime. Part 11.

{Read previous parts here.}

The six weeks passed slowly.  I received updates from him via email and the occasional chat session.  I was ready for him to be home and was worried he'd travel to another team once this contract expired.  So, I was thrilled when he informed me he'd had enough of the pro scene and was ready to come home.

He returned to Texas and immediately started a job search.  After a few duds, he finally landed a steady position.  Of course, this made me think...

We'd been together almost four years at this point.  He had a steady job.  I had a steady job.  We were in love.  We agreed we wanted to spend our lives together. Why is there no diamond on my hand?

I started to push, probably harder than I should have, and he said he was ready to start looking for a ring.  He took me shopping and I selected a oval shaped center stone with pave set diamonds in the band.

Obviously, being crazy a female, I took this as a 'go' and started not-so-subtly making plans.  I had a working guest list, considered venues, and contemplated friends for the bridal party.  Our anniversary was approaching and I was sure he'd pop the question then.

This is when he set me down for a talk.  He said he was going to wait longer than we'd planned to buy the ring.  He just felt like we needed more time to prepare and he needed to save more money.  He had no idea when the time would come.

...to be continued.

My husband waited and waited and waited to propose too. We were together 4 1/2 years before he asked and I had a hand in pushing it! We also waited 1 1/2 years to actually get married, but that was my fault. I became a basket case. I’m still loving your story! You are a great writer.
